We recently ran a poll here on TalentEgg360.com that has produced some surprising results: only about half (54%) of the respondents said social media is a formal part of their campus recruitment strategy.
Meanwhile, a little more than one quarter (27%) said it’s not an official part of their strategy, but they like to use it on their own.
Finally, nearly one in five (19%) said social media is not used at all in their campus recruitment initiatives.
On their own, these results are somewhat surprising. After all, the campus recruitment industry has been discussing social media for years now and it is the focus of much of the professional development activities available for campus recruiters today.
However, speaking as someone who follows social media and campus recruitment closely on a daily basis, I’m kind of surprised that as many as 54% of employers say social media is a formal part of their campus recruitment strategy. While more employers are now developing general talent communities on LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook, campus-only accounts are few and far between.

See what other campus recruiters are doing
One of the best ways to develop your own social media strategy is to see what others are doing – not to copy, just to get inspired. By seeing what others are doing, you can see what might work for your organization and what won’t.
To help you get started, we’ve compiled two Twitter lists on @campusemployers: one featuring campus recruiters and one featuring employers’ campus recruitment accounts. Both lists feature primarily Canadian accounts but also include tweeps from the U.S. and Europe.
Here is the timeline from the list of employers’ campus recruitment Twitter accounts:
